Very good Muvib square wave generator (1968) with constant current source, works from 1 Hz - 1.5 MC
Please read the description first. Circuit (1968) of a very good working square wave oscillator, for the frequency range 1 Hertz to (say) 1.5 MC, perhaps even higher.
Only 1 capacitor does the frequency job here, between (say) 10 uF and 300 pF (or a somewhat smaller value), in combination with a 2 transistor current source, driven by a 500 Ohm potentiometer.
The waveform (squarewave) is very pure, surely up to 1 MC. It gets “rounded” edges on higher frequencies, say above 1.5 MC.
Test, try, experiment, and do/take own experiments/conclusions to study this circuit and see what happens.
Much more info is visible in the showed tables/experimental results. When you can interpret them in terms of value/type of capacitor and the frequency that it can give, and about what I was doing in practice in this regard.
I adapted the 1968 circuit somewhat: using modern NPN Si-transistors (BC 547 b, Hfe = 300) and adding a kind of decoupling circuit paralleled to the (+) and the (-), consisting of a 47 uF capacitor, paralleled with a 330 K (or 470 K) resistor. It works on 12 Volt.
A very easy to make and properly working square wave oscillator, useful for audio and HF experiments. So that 1968 circuit was true.
More things are told in the video, so now no need for elaboration. Thus to get with certain capacitors (Cx in the schematic) to certain squarewave frequencies can be easy.

Please read the description first. The subject of this video is only this: talking about making and using flat radio coils. Such a flat radio coil can be used as a radio receiver antenna coil (many 1920’s and 1950’s radio’s are/were using it) or as an oscillator coil. It is a (kind of) braided coil (at least here: 200 KC-800 KC…not always…!) on a form of pertinax or properly varnished wood or w...

When Astable Muvibs don't want to oscillate when the voltage is slowly applied. Why? And what to do?
Переглядів 43221 день тому
Please read the description first. In many electronics books/publications no attention is payed to this problem: the AStable Multivibrator does not want to start (=oscillate). The problem happens especially when the supply Voltage slowly comes up (rises) to the necessary voltage to supply the circuit. In that case the Astable Muvib often starts to “hang” and does not want to oscillate. But, whe...

    Superb circuit, and just a thought: Should a viewer build this circuit, they can achieve all other specific frequency's by parallel/series that timing cap - any (non-standard) value capacitance can be made this way.

      Thanks Michael, the frequency variation is quite good. Though (logical) to cover all the frequencies necessary, perhaps more than (say) 12 positions on the rotary switch are necessary. Anyway, it works nice. Only around (say) 1 MC the waveforms get "rounded". And with typical HF transistors (I tested the BF 199) there is no longer a rounded squarewave but a triangle wave. I had not expected that, so the BC 547 b (not a typical HF transistor, though the BC 547 b can work up to 9 MC) is a kind of good choice. 21 Aug. 2024.

    Slow my friend. You want it to dry as slowly as possible without it molding. As long as it retains above 55% humidity it continues to cure and sweeten. If it dries below 55% moisture it won’t cure any further as it lacks the necessary moisture to continue the curing process. I typically wait until the leaves are yellow and get wrinkly appearance before harvesting. They are said to be most ripe at this time.

Bedankt, groet, Ko. 21 aug. 2024.

      @@hobbyrob313 @hobbyrob313 OK Rob. This is (by definition) a square wave generator. But around 1 MC the blocks are rounded off and that depends on all sorts of things. Today I put two real HF transistors (BF 199) in it and thought I would get a better block around 1 MHz, but it didn't work. It became a triangle wave around 1 MHz. To make a transmitter out of it, in all cases a filter must be added to get a nice sine wave. I don't know much about making transmitters in practice, but of course I know (a little) the theory. Some guesses about the triangle wave issue: - Maybe if the change to triangle wave is gradual, similar to how opamps do with their fixed slew rate (seeing the same slope as you sweep the frequencies) then it could be that the mosfet switch speed is not fast enough at higher frequencies? - Maybe a slightly higher gate/input voltage helps? (A bit brute force approach) - Or maybe lowering some resistances to charge the gate faster?) - If none of the above is correct, then likely some reactive components mess with the circuit in that frequency range, creating or lowering impedance where you don't want it. Mosfets can be tricky. I'm not too knowledgable about the circuit you are making, just my random suggestions. It really depends.

      Yes Barry, indeed, and that is also the problem. It stays "rubbery" and "sticky". I am absolutely sure that you can use this idea to make a piece of cloth very good moist repellent. But I tested it also with a piece of "hard board" (Dutch name = pressed paper board, useful for everything) and I saw that on that piece of hard board on some pieces the moisture could get somewhat through. But, could be that I have not varnished that piece of hard board enough, so to make it immerse totally. My conclusion: it works very good, but not to isolate electronic circuits, it stays too "sticky". Can attract dust easily + fix/stick that dust on a surface. On the other hand: could be useful for certain outdoor applications. Thanks. I will pin your comment. 15 Aug. 2024.

    i have read that you put your resistors into the oven for and hour or two, to completely dry them out and then you paint them with clear lacquer paint. if you dont put them into the oven first then you will possibly trap moisture inside the component. (never done this myself, just read about it)

    • @PaulaBean
      @PaulaBean 14 днів тому

      I was thinking about the same thing. Perhaps dry out the wood in the oven, before applying the paint? I guess it takes a long time (on low temperature) before all the moisture has evaporated from the wood. I sometimes build circuits on corrugated cardboard (golfkarton), using brass pins ('punaises') as solder islands. I guess balsa-wood work well too, but that's a bit expensive.

    this kind of flat coils are not good for oscillators, but can be good for filters. filters do not need stability. what gets bad stability for generated frequence, is not important for filtering. oscillators are sensible to vibrations, filtering is not

    • @radiofun232
      @radiofun232 14 днів тому

      This is a working circuit, but also a demo of the properties of such a coil. When all is made well (fixed windings, etc) the stability is OK. Of course not "crystal stability", but that is logical when you are somewhat acquainted with radio technology. Could be used as antenna coil & as oscillator coil. Everyone must do his/her experiments, to get good results on frequency "x" when working with this setup. 12 Aug. 2024.

    Pretty cool :) If you want something that achieves higher frequencies there are really cheap modules (around 2$) that use the Si5351, they go from 7Khz to 120-160Mhz and have up to three sepparate chanels. I created a signal generator with those and a bluepill to control it with a little I2C screen and some pushbuttons and work like a charm.

    32.768khz, because many times they intended for use on a battery-only time keeping circuit, I guess they are designed to operate well, with very little power (so don't waste your watch battery!). Hence why the large resistors, they only need a tiny amount of current to oscillate properly. I have just finished building a CMOS tester circuit, it uses the inverter / pierce oscillator circuit. What I found works was 10M resistor across the inverter, and 270k in series with the output into the crystal. So again very high value resistors. And you want two capacitors to ground around it (I use 22p). With this oscillator they start up quite fast. For >1Mhz crystals, I instead used 1M and 75R. So much lower values for the Mhz crystals. If you get a variable capacitor you could try replacing it for the 22p in your circuit, and see if you can adjust to get the "correct" 32.768khz

    2:15: no, it's not! :D check again, in TI datasheet there is nothing about IN+ being connected, i think you checked Philips datasheet, where you can find the internal diagram, but you don't zoomed enough, and got ground connection as being a link between positive inputs... :) i was almost sure about that, too, but i zoomed the pdf more, and... eh... age! :)
